Year 13 Coursework Deadlines

Year 13: Your deadlines are as follows:

  • First draft of the Research Investigation - 29th FEBRUARY
  • Final draft of the Research Investigation - 15th APRIL
  • Production and Evaluation - 30th APRIL

Please note that no work will be accepted after the final deadline of 30th APRIL and non-submission of all three parts of the coursework by the final deadline will result in you being withdrawn from the examination.

Past Examination Results for A Level Media Studies at DBS

I am often asked about examination results for Media students at DBS so I thought I would share them on this blog.  I am very proud to say that our students always achieve high grades and I am optimistic that this year's cohort of A Level students will be equally as successful as their past counterparts.

Results 2011

AS (11 students) 2 As, 5 Bs, 1 C and 3 Ds.

A2 (8 students) 3 As, 4 Bs and 1 C.

Results 2010

AS (14 students) 3 As, 3 Bs, 5 Cs and 3 Ds.

A2 (8 students) 5 As, 2 Bs and 1 C.

Year 13: MS 4 Examination Module

Students are learning about three media industries - Film, Music and Advertising - through the exploration of case study media texts.  For the Film Industry, the case study texts are Avatar, Hurt Locker and Moon. For the Advertising Industry, the case study texts are the Dolce and Gabbana Napolean campaign, Diesel's 'Be Stupid' campaign and the Think! drink driving campaign 'Moment of Truth'.  For the Music Industry the case study texts are the artists Lady Gaga, Cheryl Cole and Emeli Sande. 

When exploring each case study text, students work in small study groups to research topic areas listed in the syllabus and when ready, they present their findings to the class.  The resources students make on the topics areas are then collected together in the form of a revision case study pack for each media text. Thus students effectively teach themselves and each other.
